UPDATE: Soquel High School’s boys basketball team delivered an emphatic performance, defeating Watsonville High 77-42 in a nonleague game on January 5, 2024. The Knights stormed out of the gate, leading 29-11 after the first quarter, showcasing their offensive prowess.
In a game marked by teamwork and unselfish play, senior center Connor Corlett shined with a double-double, scoring 16 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Knights head coach Chris Christensen praised his team’s improved ball movement, saying, “We have been struggling offensively, but tonight we moved the ball better and created open shots for each other.”
Soquel, now boasting a record of 6-3, dominated the first half, outscoring Watsonville 48-16 before halftime. Senior Miles Johnson contributed significantly with 14 points, while juniors Ryan Grilli and Mason Esters each added 9 points. Grilli was instrumental from beyond the arc, hitting three of the Knights’ total of 11 three-pointers.
Watsonville’s performance was led by senior forward/center Anthony Razo, who scored 9 points. The Wildcatz, now at 4-2, will look to rebound as they host Saint Francis of Mountain View on January 9 at 3 p.m.
Next up for Soquel is a matchup against Pacific Grove on Monday, January 8, at 7 p.m. As the Knights continue to build momentum, fans are eager to see if they can maintain this aggressive style of play moving forward.
