South Dakota Teen Dies After Being Struck by Pickup Truck

URGENT UPDATE: A tragic accident in Hudson, South Dakota, has resulted in the death of a 14-year-old boy. The incident occurred shortly after midnight on November 29, 2023, when the teen was run over by a pickup truck while being pulled on a snowboard.

Authorities report that Teaue Rus, an 18-year-old from Rock Valley, Iowa, was operating a 2011 Ford F-250 on 488th Avenue when the accident took place. Witnesses say the truck was pulling a snowboarder who fell off, prompting Rus to stop and reverse the vehicle. Tragically, the 14-year-old boy, whose identity has not yet been released due to his age, fell from the truck’s box onto the road and was struck.

First responders from Lincoln County rushed to the scene after a call just after midnight. The boy was quickly loaded back into the truck by Rus, a 19-year-old woman from Sioux Falls, and the snowboarder, who then transported him to a hospital in Hawarden, Iowa. Despite their efforts, the teen succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol has confirmed that charges are pending against Rus, although no formal charges have been filed through the South Dakota Unified Judicial System as of midday Monday.
