UPDATE: Over 2,800 runners filled the streets of Fairfield, California, for the 17th Annual Solano Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day. This festive event featured both 10K and 5K runs, blending serious competition with family fun, as participants donned creative costumes, from turkeys to beloved video game characters.
The race kicked off early this morning, organized by Medic Ambulance and Fleet Feet Vacaville. Runners of all ages participated, with many showcasing their spirit through imaginative outfits. Participants dressed as Super Mario, Santa Claus, and even a juggling runner captivated the crowd. “I love the energy and the people,” said event organizer Carol Gilpin. “It’s like throwing a big party on Thanksgiving.”
Among the standout participants was Jordan Kurtz, who claimed victory in the 10K race with a remarkable time of 31 minutes and 3 seconds. Officials believe this could be a new course record. “Carol does such a great job organizing this event,” Kurtz praised. “The flat course through the vineyards makes it enjoyable.”
The event brought families together, with young runners like 7-year-old Gianna South experiencing the thrill of competition for the first time. “I loved seeing Mario and Buddy the Elf,” she exclaimed, proudly clutching her medal after crossing the finish line.
Participants shared their adventures, with Joel Canalas traveling from San Jose dressed as Super Mario alongside an inflatable Yoshi. “It was fun having kids ask for pictures,” he said, highlighting the event’s community spirit.
Costumes were a major highlight, with Dr. Chris Claus winning the costume contest as a hand turkey. He noted, “This event brings out everyone—dogs, kids, everyone. It’s a great way to start the day.”
