Truckee North Tahoe TMA Honors Members for Mobility Milestones

UPDATE: The Truckee North Tahoe Transportation Management Association (TNTTMA) just announced the winners of its annual awards, celebrating significant achievements in regional mobility among its over 80 member organizations. This recognition highlights impactful transportation projects that have transformed the Tahoe Truckee region, showcasing the dedication to sustainable solutions.

During the ceremony held on October 15, 2023, TNTTMA Executive Director Sara Van Siclen emphasized the importance of recognizing the hard work behind the scenes. “While we connect regularly throughout the year to share updates, this annual event is our opportunity to pause, reflect, and celebrate the progress we’ve made together,” she stated.

The awards presented included the Transit Changemaker Award, given to Keep Tahoe Blue and the Tahoe Fund for their launch of the Emerald Bay Shuttle. This pilot program enhances access to Emerald Bay, a key destination, by providing convenient, gear-friendly transit between Camp Richardson, Sugar Pine Point State Park, and the South Tahoe “Y” Transit Center. The initiative not only improves visitor experience but also addresses environmental concerns by removing unsafe roadside parking.

The Infrastructure Improvement Award went to the Tahoe Transportation District and Placer County for the Fanny Bridge Community Revitalization Project. This extensive project, which includes a new bypass bridge over the Truckee River, two roundabouts, and modern upgrades to the historic Fanny Bridge, aims to enhance traffic flow and safety while promoting multi-modal access. New trails, sidewalks, and bike facilities were also introduced, fostering a more connected community.

Additionally, the Trailblazing Award recognized the Tahoe City Public Utility District (TCPUD) for the North Shore Trail Reconstruction Project. Completed in Fall 2024, this $3.2 million investment improved two miles of one of the lake’s busiest multi-use trails, ensuring enhanced safety and accessibility.

The prestigious Chip Matcham Award was presented to Dan Wilkins, honoring his 24 years on the TNTTMA Board and nearly 30 years with the Town of Truckee. His leadership has been instrumental in shaping the region’s infrastructure, resulting in the establishment of 13 roundabouts and extensive trails and bike lanes.

The TNTTMA continues to be a vital force in promoting sustainable transportation solutions, driving impactful change in the Tahoe Truckee region. As these projects unfold, they not only improve mobility but also enhance the community’s quality of life.
