Urgent: 4-Year-Old Shot in Tulare; Teen Suspects Arrested

UPDATE: A 4-year-old child was shot twice in Tulare, California, during a shocking incident involving multiple teenage suspects. Authorities confirm the shooting occurred on Friday evening as a group of children, aged between 4 and 16, played in a front yard on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and U Street.

Police report that three armed suspects opened fire on the children, striking the young victim. The child was rushed to a local hospital before being airlifted to Valley Children’s Hospital for treatment. Thankfully, the child is now recovering, but the motive behind the shooting remains unclear.

Detectives from the Tulare Police Department worked overnight, piecing together information that led to the identification of four suspects involved in the attack. Surveillance footage proved crucial in the investigation, resulting in the arrest of three teenage boys, aged 16 and 17.

Sgt. German Barrios stated, “Upon approaching a residence of interest in the 800 block of South Q Street, three individuals attempted to flee. One was quickly apprehended and found with a firearm.” The other two suspects barricaded themselves inside the home, prompting police to deploy a SWAT team to resolve the situation. Following the execution of a search warrant, all suspects were taken into custody, and two firearms were recovered.

Authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward. “It’s unfortunate; the reason why these individuals shot at those kids is currently unknown,” Barrios added. The investigation could take weeks, if not months, as detectives continue to gather evidence.

This incident raises serious concerns about the safety of children in the community. The Tulare Police Department is committed to uncovering the full details of this disturbing event. For ongoing updates, follow journalist Kassandra Gutierrez on Facebook, X, and Instagram.
