Urgent Kitchen Fire Displaces Family in South Aurora Home

URGENT UPDATE: A cooking-related fire severely damaged a home in south Aurora on Wednesday night, forcing a family of four to evacuate. Firefighters responded to the emergency call at 6:30 p.m., arriving quickly to find flames and smoke billowing from the rear of the house on the 400 block of South Lima Circle.

The blaze originated in the kitchen and rapidly spread into the attic. Fortunately, no one was inside the home when firefighters arrived, and the fire was extinguished within 17 minutes, at approximately 6:57 p.m. No injuries were reported, but the fire left significant damage to both the kitchen and the attic, according to Aurora Fire and Rescue spokesperson Eric Hurst.

A total of 15 fire and medical units and about 40 personnel from Aurora Fire Rescue, Aurora Police, and Falck Rocky Mountain were deployed to manage the incident. Hurst confirmed that the fire was classified as an “accidental kitchen fire related to cooking.”

The displaced family, consisting of two adults and two children, did not seek assistance from the American Red Cross. In light of this incident, Hurst emphasized the importance of fire safety, stating that cooking is the leading cause of home fires. He urged residents to never leave cooking unattended, keep combustible items away from heat sources, and ensure that functioning smoke alarms are present on every level of the home and in sleeping areas.

As investigations continue, residents are reminded to remain vigilant about kitchen fire safety. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
