Urgent: Police Hunt for Driver After Rollover Crash in Pelham

PELHAM, N.H. — Urgent update: Police are actively searching for a driver involved in a rollover crash that occurred early Saturday morning, resulting in one person injured. The incident took place at approximately 12:20 a.m. on February 17, 2024, on Windham Road near Hobbs Road.

Emergency responders, including Pelham police and firefighters, arrived at the scene to discover a GMC Yukon on its passenger side with a trailer attached, located in the yard of 255 Hobbs Road. The driver of the Yukon sustained minor injuries and was promptly transported to a local hospital by the Pelham Fire Department. Fortunately, two passengers inside the SUV were evaluated and reported no injuries.

Initial investigations reveal that the Yukon was traveling south on Windham Road when a Ford Expedition heading north crossed the centerline. To avoid a collision, the Yukon swerved off the road, leading to the rollover. Witnesses reported that the Expedition briefly stopped after the crash but then fled the scene, turning down Hobbs Road towards Route 38.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about the fleeing Expedition to come forward. Those with tips can contact Cpl. James Locke at [email protected] or call 603-635-2411. Despite thorough searches by officers, the vehicle remains unaccounted for.

In the wake of this incident, Pelham Police took to social media to highlight a troubling trend, reporting that they responded to five motor vehicle crashes in just over 24 hours, four of which occurred on Mammoth Road. Among these incidents, two were described as serious, with one resulting in a fatality. Authorities confirmed that a 19-year-old man died following a single-vehicle crash on Thursday night, after his Volkswagen Jetta rolled over and struck a utility pole. His identity has not yet been released.

As investigations continue into both the rollover crash and the recent spate of accidents, police are reminding drivers to exercise caution on the roads.

Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
