URGENT UPDATE: Staten Island high school basketball teams showcased their talent in the Boardwalk Classic and other matchups, delivering thrilling performances. Just announced results highlight the resilience of local teams as they aim for victory during this competitive season.

In a nail-biter, St. Joseph by-the-Sea edged past St. Michael Catholic with a final score of 47-45. The standout player, Nick Rebracca, scored a game-high 27 points, leading his team to an even record of 1-1. Rebracca’s scoring was crucial, with a perfect 7 for 7 from the free-throw line, including pivotal shots in the fourth quarter. “Nick showed his ability to score in a variety of ways today in a much-needed win for us,” praised Sea head coach Mike Cortese.

Meanwhile, Moore defeated Abington Friends from Philadelphia, 60-55, marking a strong start in the tournament. Senior guards Eenej Vinson and Matt Gibbons each contributed 14 points, while Nick DeGrado added 10. The Mavs, now 2-6, are set to face Pennsbury HS on December 28 at 1 p.m. in their next matchup.

In a separate event in Daytona, Monsignor Farrell fell to Lake Howell 49-35, despite JJ Yates scoring 16 points. The Lions struggled in the third quarter, managing only two points as Lake Howell surged ahead. This defeat ended Farrell’s winning streak at five games. They will look to rebound against Winter Haven on December 26 at 11:30 a.m.

Additionally, MSIT triumphed over CSIM 74-68 in the MSIT Christmas Showcase. Ray Guerriero led the Seagulls with a season-high 20 points, including nine in the decisive fourth quarter. Coach Charlie Donohue acknowledged the challenge, noting, “Tough win against a tough team, who always comes to play.”

Not to be overlooked, SIA improved to 10-0 with a victory against Petrides, finishing 75-67. Danny Nowak led the Tigers with 19 points, supported by Gabe Moschella and Luke DeVito, who scored 18 and 15, respectively. Coach Mike Mazella expressed optimism about their undefeated record, stating, “We’re thrilled to be undefeated at this point, and we realize we still have so much room for improvement.”
