BREAKING: Yutan senior wrestler Jordyn Campbell has made history, becoming the first girl in Nebraska to achieve 200 career wins since the Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA) sanctioned girls wrestling in May 2021. This remarkable milestone was reached at the Cedar Bluffs Invite in late January, where Campbell also set a new state record for career pins with 177.
“I never thought that I would be where I’m at today,” Campbell reflected, recalling her early struggles in the sport at just eight years old. Her journey has culminated in unprecedented achievements that are inspiring young athletes across the state.
In addition to her historic win, Campbell’s two-time state champion status was solidified with her record-breaking performance at the Cedar Bluffs tournament. “It was super exciting to hit a milestone like that in my high school career,” she said. The announcement of her dual records sent waves of emotion through the audience, as Campbell expressed her gratitude towards her supporters.
Her coach, Dan Krajicek, praised her dedication, stating, “It’s just a culmination of moment after moment. She has the right mentality for achieving a lot.” Krajicek described Campbell’s wrestling style as effective yet straightforward, emphasizing her mastery of fundamental techniques over flashy moves. This approach has proven successful as she consistently pins her opponents using basic techniques executed with precision.
The achievements have positioned Campbell to potentially secure her third consecutive state championship this season. “Feeling the adrenaline and hearing that I did it was surreal,” she added, highlighting the emotional weight of her accomplishments.
As excitement builds for the upcoming girls state tournament, set to begin on February 17 at the CHI Health Center in Omaha, Campbell continues to prepare, having recently secured a district championship at 135 pounds during the B-1 meet in Plainview on February 7.
This historic moment not only marks a significant milestone for Campbell but also represents a major leap forward for girls wrestling in Nebraska. As she gears up for the state tournament, all eyes will be on Campbell to see if she can continue her record-breaking journey.
