Cobbs Creek Golf Course Reopens with High-Tech Features and Dining

Cobbs Creek Golf Course in Philadelphia has officially reopened, introducing a modern driving range, a full-service restaurant, and a community event space. This significant development marks a new era for the historic public course, which has undergone extensive renovations aimed at revitalizing the site as a year-round destination for both golfers and local residents.

The Cobbs Creek Foundation launched the new Lincoln Financial Center, located at 7403 Lansdowne Ave., featuring a two-story driving range and golf entertainment center. The facility includes 68 Toptracer practice bays, with 20 heated bays available for year-round reservations. Golfers can now enjoy food and beverage service directly to their practice areas, enhancing the overall experience.

“We’re incredibly excited that the Lincoln Financial Center at Cobbs Creek is open to the public,” said Jeff Shanahan, President of the Cobbs Creek Foundation. He emphasized that attracting both golfers and community members back to the course has been a core mission of the foundation.

The collaboration with Lincoln Financial Group, which became a founding sponsor of the foundation in March 2024, exemplifies the project’s community focus. The partnership aims to support educational, mentorship, and networking initiatives planned for the Cobbs Creek Golf and Education Campus. John Kennedy, Chief Distribution and Brand Officer at Lincoln Financial, expressed pride in the opening, describing the center as a year-round venue for golf, dining, and community events.

Facilities and Features

The new complex features the state-of-the-art Little Horse Tavern, which offers a menu that includes classic golf course fare such as burgers, wood-fired pizzas, and cocktails. Open daily from noon to 8 p.m., the restaurant welcomes both reservations and walk-ins.

Atop the facility, the event space known as 1916 by Fitler Club can accommodate over 200 guests. This space, named for the year the Cobbs Creek Golf Course first opened, is now available for meetings, private events, and community gatherings.

Additionally, weather permitting, the Q School Short Course, a new nine-hole layout designed by TGR Design, Tiger Woods’ golf course architecture firm, aims to introduce newcomers to golf while providing seasoned players with a space to enhance their skills. Limited tee times will be made available on favorable weather days.

“We’re inviting Philly to come out to Cobbs Creek — hit some balls, try our new short course, bring friends, share a meal, and experience what we’re building here,” said Chris Parker, General Manager of the Cobbs Creek campus.

Revitalization Plans

The restoration of Cobbs Creek Golf Course is a substantial initiative, with the Cobbs Creek Foundation aiming to raise $180 million for this project. Ongoing work includes the renovation of the 18-hole championship course, led by architects Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner, with a reopening anticipated in 2027. The entire campus is managed by Troon, a global leader in golf and hospitality services.

This reopening not only revitalizes a historic site but also aims to foster a sense of community, making Cobbs Creek a hub for engaging activities and gatherings. As the foundation continues its work, the focus remains on creating a welcoming environment for both avid golfers and local residents alike.
