Delta Air Lines Unveils New 44-Seat First Class A321neos

Delta Air Lines is set to introduce a new configuration for its Airbus A321neos, increasing the number of first class seats from 20 to 44. This decision marks a significant shift in the airline’s approach, reflecting both market demand and operational necessity. Delta’s A321neos are equipped with Pratt & Whitney PW1100G engines and designed to support up to four exit doors and overwing exits, ensuring enhanced safety and operational efficiency.

The adjustment aims to replace the Boeing 757 fleet on specific transcontinental routes.

The newly configured A321neos will utilize the Recaro CL4710 seats, already certified for Delta First, providing an additional layer of comfort for passengers. Delta plans to remove the bulkhead that typically separates DeltaOne from the Premium Select, allowing for the installation of these new seats.

Challenges surrounding seat certification have caused delays, with Delta facing issues in getting the DeltaOne suites certified. As a result, the airline will temporarily install Delta First seats in their place. This pragmatic approach mitigates financial losses from grounded aircraft while allowing Delta to maximize revenue potential.
