A fire at the Fourwinds boat docks on Lake Monroe resulted in the destruction of three boats and caused damage to a fourth on the morning of March 13, 2024. The incident was reported to the Monroe Fire Protection District around 08:00 local time. Firefighters quickly responded to the scene, where they encountered heavy smoke emanating from several vessels.
Upon arrival, fire crews found that multiple boats were engulfed in flames. To prevent the fire from spreading, they worked to push the burning boats out of their slips. Their efforts were crucial in containing the blaze, which ultimately destroyed three boats completely. One additional vessel sustained what officials described as “moderate fire damage.”
The investigation into the cause of the fire revealed that it was initiated by a mechanical malfunction. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
Later in the day, around 17:30, fire crews were called back to the marina after a fuel spill from one of the burned boats reignited, leading to a second fire. Firefighters managed to extinguish this flare-up without further damage or injuries.
The Monroe Fire Protection District continues to investigate the incident, emphasizing the importance of regular maintenance to prevent similar occurrences in the future. Local authorities are urging boat owners to be vigilant about mechanical issues to ensure safety on the water.
