The Kremlin has issued a severe warning regarding the potential escalation of the Ukraine conflict, suggesting it could lead to a global confrontation if Western support for Ukraine persists. This cautionary note was articulated by Kirill Dmitriev, a close associate of Vladimir Putin and a Kremlin envoy, as European leaders engage in critical discussions surrounding Donald Trump‘s proposed peace plan.
Dmitriev’s comments come ahead of pivotal diplomatic meetings involving the UK, Germany, and France, who are working to enhance security guarantees for Kyiv and prevent a Russian takeover of the Donbas region. He accused Western officials of actively undermining Trump’s peace efforts, stating on the platform X, “NATO/EU/UK bureaucrats are undertaking massive efforts to undermine President Trump’s peace plan. They would rather start WW3 than have President Trump succeed with Peace,” according to reports from the Express US.
Escalating Tensions Amid Diplomatic Talks
Dmitriev’s warning coincided with remarks from NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, who indicated that Putin could launch attacks on allied nations within five years. Rutte emphasized that Ukraine’s security is intrinsically linked to that of Western nations. The Kremlin’s concerns are further fueled by European nations’ plans to redirect frozen Russian assets, estimated at hundreds of billions of pounds, to support Ukraine.
As Trump’s envoy, Steve Witkoff, travels to Berlin for discussions with Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelensky, there is growing pressure on Zelensky to consider ceding territory to Russia in exchange for U.S. security assurances.
