UPDATE: Starting Monday, Weld County Road 34 will close for urgent roundabout construction at the intersection of Weld 34 and Weld County Road 9.5, designated as High Plains Boulevard. This closure will remain in effect until December 22, 2023, as part of a significant traffic improvement project aimed at enhancing safety and efficiency.

Residents in the area should prepare for this closure, which affects the stretch between the east Interstate 25 frontage road and Weld County Road 13. Detour information is available on the Weld County Road Advisory Map at apps.weld.gov/publicworks/roadadvisory.

“We appreciate the public’s patience as we work to deliver this enhancement,” stated Curtis Hall, Weld County’s director of public works. He emphasized the project’s goal to reduce broadside crashes and facilitate smoother traffic flow through High Plains Boulevard and the WCR 34 intersection.

Construction will be implemented in phases, with initial work focusing on utility installations and drainage systems, including box culverts. Despite the closure, residents will maintain access to homes and businesses throughout the construction period.

“High Plains Boulevard aims to provide a safe and efficient north-south route through a busy and growing part of the county,” commented Jason Maxey, Weld County commissioner. The project will feature bike lanes on both sides and a 10-foot sidewalk, promoting safe multi-modal transportation options.

Additionally, another roundabout is planned at Weld 32 and Weld 9.5 as part of this overall traffic improvement effort. The collaboration between Weld County and the town of Mead is crucial, with the county’s segment running from Weld 32 to 34, while Mead will handle the construction from Weld 34 to Weld 36.

A ground-breaking celebration for a segment of the High Plains Boulevard project took place in June, highlighting the community’s investment in safer roads.
