The South Iowa Cedar League (SICL) recently announced its all-conference volleyball selections, recognizing standout players from the 2023 season. Among the honorees, Britney Keeney, a senior from Colfax-Mingo, and Tatum Huyser, a senior from Lynnville-Sully, earned first-team accolades for their exceptional performance on the court.
Keeney excelled throughout the season, ranking fifth in the SICL with 104 kills, sixth with 27 blocks, and ninth with 20 aces. In addition to her offensive contributions, she recorded three assists and 44 digs, finishing the season with a serve accuracy of 125-of-141. Huyser also made a significant impact for the Hawks, tallying 77 kills, 142 digs, and 16 assists. She ranked fifth in the league with 28 blocks and maintained a serve percentage of 93-of-103.
Recognition for Additional Players
Joining Keeney and Huyser on the all-conference list, Katelyn Steenhoek, a junior from Colfax-Mingo, received a second-team selection. Steenhoek’s season was marked by her impressive statistics, including ranking tenth in the conference with 160 assists and second with 27 aces. She also recorded 210 serves with a success rate of 190 and contributed 63 kills, nine blocks, and 115 digs.
Honorable mentions were awarded to Kate Harthoorn from Lynnville-Sully, along with Colfax-Mingo’s Grace Hunsberger and Grace Allen. Harthoorn collected 124 digs, 31 kills, and 196 assists during the season, while Hunsberger and Allen added valuable contributions for their team.
In a testament to their strong performance, Tim Burgess of Montezuma was recognized as the SICL Coach of the Year after leading his team to victory in the conference.
