Phi Delta Theta Fraternity Enhances Emporia’s Red Rocks Landmark

Members of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity’s Kansas Epsilon chapter dedicated their weekend to enhancing the historic Red Rocks in Emporia, Kansas. This initiative, part of their annual “Raking Red Rocks” service effort, aimed to prepare the landmark for the winter season.

Founded as the residence of renowned newspaperman William Allen White, Red Rocks required a thorough cleanup for the fall. The fraternity brothers initially planned to begin their work on Friday, November 21, 2023. Unfortunately, inclement weather forced them to postpone their efforts until Saturday.

On Saturday morning, from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m., a group of thirteen fraternity members and two chapter sweethearts gathered to tackle the project. Together, they managed to complete approximately 70 percent of the fall cleanup. The remaining tasks were finalized by additional volunteers the following Sunday, ensuring that the site was well-prepared for the colder months ahead.

The service project ran from November 21 to 23, 2023, reflecting the ongoing commitment of Phi Delta Theta to support their local community. This initiative not only enhances the appearance of Red Rocks but also strengthens the bond between the fraternity and the community it serves.

Through such efforts, organizations like Phi Delta Theta demonstrate the importance of community service and the positive impact that dedicated volunteers can have on preserving local landmarks. The commitment to service exemplified by the Kansas Epsilon chapter contributes to the cultural heritage and upkeep of Emporia’s historic sites.
