9-Year-Old JR Takes on His Parents as Villains in Viral Graphic Novels
JR, a 9-year-old from Utah, has sparked laughter and viral buzz after creating a series of graphic novels that cast his parents as the antagonists in his stories. In one striking installment titled “Emerald Warrior vs. Stupid Parents,” JR paints his mom and dad as “stupid parents” who constantly try to thwart the heroic Emerald Warrior—himself—fueling a uniquely childlike rebellion that’s now captivating thousands nationwide.
The bold books emerged late one night after JR’s parents had to correct his behavior, causing frustration that transformed into a creative outburst. “He was mad and started crying, then said, ‘I’m going to write a book about you guys to embarrass you!’” shared his mother, health educator StacyLyn Goulding, on Instagram.
Stupid Parents Get Tossed in the Ocean by Emerald Warrior
In the first book, JR’s “stupid parents” are bossy and controlling, trying to stop kids from doing their own thing, only for Emerald Warrior to heroically send them crashing into the ocean. StacyLyn says this comic-style retaliation is all the more ironic since “we don’t say the word ‘stupid’ in our house.”
The wildly imaginative stories didn’t stop there. In a second book, “Emerald Warrior vs. No Mom,” JR took aim at the moments his mom had to say no to using a restaurant gift card during a busy day. Here, Emerald Warrior uses a “Yes Spray” to make “No Mom” say yes to every question. The family’s spring break exhaustion is comically captured as No Mom is reluctantly transformed.
Creativity Meets Childhood Frustration
StacyLyn and her husband Zach, a therapist, view JR’s creative outlet as a healthy vent for young frustrations. “He watches me read the stories aloud and loves it when I laugh. His face lights up with pride,” StacyLyn says. Though the books are born from moments of anger, JR’s joy in making his parents laugh is clear.
JR has developed a consistent storytelling rhythm, creating five-page stories with distinctive climaxes and story arcs. StacyLyn comments, “He knows what makes a good book and has got the storytelling down.”
More Adventures in the Works
With his parents now the recurrent “villains” in Emerald Warrior’s adventures, JR has promised even more graphic novels if his parents continue to push boundaries. “He says there’s more in the works,” StacyLyn warns, hinting at further episodes of child-versus-parent battles.
JR’s inventive storytelling captures a universal moment—many children’s frustrations with parental boundaries—and channels it into entertaining, witty comic relief. This viral series is not only an immediate hit on social media but also a reminder of how creativity can transform conflict into laughter.
As JR’s stories spread across Instagram and other platforms, they resonate with parents and kids nationwide in South Carolina and beyond, reflecting a shared family dynamic through a fresh and humorous lens.
