Kansas Ranks Third in National Library Support Amid Read Week

Language learning platform Mondly has released a new study assessing local library support, using the latest data from the Institute of Museum and Library Services for Fiscal Year 2023. The index evaluates library usage and funding based on four critical factors: library visits per person, materials borrowed per person, revenue per person, and the percentage of registered library users.

Kansas scored an impressive 77.6 out of 100, reflecting its strong commitment to libraries. The state allocated $69.25 per person for library funding, ranking ninth in the nation and surpassing the national average of $51.73 by 33.9%. In total, Kansas’s 318 library systems received $176.4 million in funding this fiscal year.

Kansas residents also demonstrated a high engagement with their libraries, recording an average of 3.79 visits per person and borrowing an average of 8.4 materials per person annually. Furthermore, an impressive 66% of the state’s population is registered library users, positioning Kansas as a leader in library engagement.

Ohio claimed the top spot as the best state for library lovers, achieving a stellar score of 95.6 out of 100. Ohioans excelled in borrowing materials, averaging 12.99 items per person, significantly outpacing the national average of 6.04. Additionally, Ohio’s library funding per capita stands at $94.55, marking it as the highest in the country.
