Rising Stars Dominate Central Florida’s Tremendous 10 Poll This Week

Central Florida Athletes Make Big Waves in Tremendous 10 Poll

Fresh from intense regional and state tournaments, Central Florida’s top high school athletes have propelled themselves to the forefront of The Ledger’s Tremendous 10 poll for April 27-May 2, sponsored by Central Florida Behavioral Health. Exceptional performances on the field and track are fueling a fierce competition for the top spot this week as athletes across softball, baseball, tennis, and track and field cement their legacies.

This week’s leaders are driven by high stakes — every hit, pitch, and finish line crossing inches them closer to individual state titles and team victories that prolong seasons and raise spirits. Among the standout nominees, Bartow pitcher Ryleigh Knowlton bursts into the spotlight, delivering a dominant three-hitter complete with 10 strikeouts and a crucial game-tying double in the semifinals, capping a sensational 17-2 season with an eye-popping 0.59 ERA and 185 strikeouts. Knowlton’s dual prowess at the plate, where she’s batting .338 with 20 RBIs, underscores her all-around impact.

Meanwhile, Lakeland Christian senior Maclain Irby clinched the deciding game of the 2A-2 regional semifinals by singling home the winning run and maintaining a robust .400 average in the series. His clutch performance lifted his batting average 20 points to .282 and solidified his spot among the top nominees.

Others Making Waves: Sprinting and Softball Standouts

On the track, Lakeland senior DJ Dobie is rewriting his school’s record books by winning both the 100 and 200 meters at the region meet — a feat unseen for Dreadnaughts since 2006. His blistering 10.50-second 100m and 21.68-second 200m, plus leading the victorious 4×100 relay team, showcase his explosive speed.

Softball talent is equally fierce, with Lake Wales junior Zamirya McBurrows pitching a one-hit shutout in the district championship game, striking out 10 batters to seal the 4A-7 title. Freshman McKeel’s Kamryn Scobey also shined with a 3-for-4 day and three RBIs in a critical district championship game, reinforcing McKeel as a powerhouse program.

Tennis star Auburndale senior McKenna Battilla earned state runner-up honors in the highly competitive Class 3A singles tournament, becoming only the third Polk County player to reach the state title match in singles play — a testament to her remarkable career.

Tracking Leaders Across Events and Schools

George Jenkins junior Tori Gibson flexed her versatility by racking up 28 points at the 4A-2 region meet through a long jump victory and top finishes in hurdles and triple jump events. Likewise, track athletes Auburndale’s Wizly Payoute and Victory Christian’s Andrew Morrison dominated their respective meets by winning sprint and hurdle events that set the stage for upcoming state-level competitions.

Baseball contender Winter Haven senior Jody Wilson rounded out the Tremendous 10 with stellar batting (a .500 clip) and pitching performances in regional semifinals, highlighting the depth of talent featured.
