Video Captures Final Moments of Renee Nicole Good Before Shooting

A video recorded by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer captures the final moments of Renee Nicole Good before she was fatally shot on January 7, 2026. The footage, taken by Officer Jonathan Ross, was shared publicly by Vice President JD Vance, who defended the officer’s actions, asserting that Ross acted in self-defense during a confrontation that he claims endangered his life.

In the video, Good can be seen speaking to Ross, reassuring him, “I’m not mad at you,” as he circles her vehicle, which was blocking part of the road. Her wife, Becca Good, exited the car and informed Ross that they do not change their license plates frequently, indicating that they would be available for further discussion later. Despite this, tensions escalated, leading to a dramatic turn of events.

As the incident unfolded, another officer was heard demanding Good to “get out of the f**king car.” In response, Good began to reverse the vehicle and then accelerated forward. Ross shouted “whoa” just before the sound of three gunshots echoed in the video. Following the shots, the SUV lurched forward while a bystander could be heard using derogatory language directed at Good.

The aftermath of the shooting has raised significant concerns regarding the investigation process. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) was informed that it would not be allowed to conduct a joint investigation into the incident and subsequently lost access to crucial evidence obtained by the FBI. Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty and Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison held a press conference to announce their commitment to pursuing an independent investigation despite the lack of federal support.

“I cannot overstate the importance of a local investigation or at least access to the federal investigation by the BCA,” Moriarty stated, highlighting the necessity for transparency within the community. She emphasized that without evidence submitted to their office, they would be unable to make informed decisions regarding the case. The removal of physical evidence, such as Good’s vehicle and shell casings, complicates the investigation.

On January 8, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem asserted that the BCA does not have jurisdiction over this investigation, further complicating matters. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey criticized the exclusion of the BCA, accusing the Trump administration of having already concluded that Good was a domestic terrorist. “If you got nothing to hide from, then don’t hide from it,” Frey remarked, calling for local experts to be included in the investigation process.

Moriarty reiterated their dedication to conducting a thorough investigation, stating, “We know what our job is… to ensure a thorough investigation, seek justice, and to be fair to all involved.” The insistence on local involvement reflects an urgent need for accountability and clarity in the wake of this tragic incident.

As the investigation continues, local authorities are urging anyone with information or footage related to the shooting to come forward. The community awaits answers regarding the circumstances surrounding Renee Nicole Good’s death, emphasizing the critical need for transparency and justice in the face of such a significant loss.
