Multiple Wildfires Spark Road Closures Near Fallbrook, Largest Over 5 Acres

More than a dozen small wildfires broke out near Fallbrook along Hwy 76 Eastbound and I-15 Saturday morning, forcing multiple road closures and prompting urgent firefighting efforts. The largest blaze spanned over five acres, with several smaller fires quickly contained by Cal Fire crews.

Battalion Chief Thomas Shoots of Cal Fire San Diego described the chaotic initial response as numerous 9-1-1 calls reported fires at varying locations along the stretch just north of Hwy 76. “Most of the fires were small, ranging from 20 by 20 feet to as large as half an acre, with our biggest one just over five acres,” Chief Shoots said.

Firefighters deployed a combination of engines, hand crews, and water tenders to stop the forward progress swiftly and then build containment lines while mopping up remaining hotspots under challenging conditions. The coordinated effort prevented major spread and minimized damage.

While the exact cause remains under investigation, the simultaneous ignition of so many fires prompted support from both Cal Fire Riverside and the San Diego Sheriff’s Department. Authorities urge anyone with information regarding the fires to contact the San Diego Sheriff’s non-emergency line immediately.

“Situations deteriorate quickly and this is going to be the beginning of the next several months of a lot of things like this,” Chief Shoots warned, urging residents to stay prepared for potential evacuations with a solid family plan in place.

This string of fires comes as wildfire season intensifies across California and the western U.S., serving as a stark warning for communities nationwide, including those in South Carolina where dry conditions and increasing heat elevate wildfire risks.

Authorities are keeping road closures in place for safety while crews fully assess the impacted areas. Residents and travelers along Hwy 76 and I-15 are advised to monitor local updates and prepare for sudden evacuation orders as fire activity remains a constant threat in the region.

This rapid response and containment success underscores the vital importance of readiness and communication during wildfire outbreaks, with the high number of simultaneous blazes demonstrating how quickly such incidents can escalate.
